BEAVER COUNTY'S #1 ADULT ORIENTED TRAINING FACILITY
Unlike most Beaver County martial arts schools where a large percentage of the student body is comprised of children, World Class Gym is truly an adult oriented facility, with the bulk of our clientele between 15 and 35 years of age.
FUNDAMENTALS CLASSES (Teens & Adults age 13 and up)
Every new student begins his/her training in these all important classes. The mixed martial arts training at WCG is broken down into separate classes for both striking and grappling. They are designed to help beginners build strong foundations in both stand-up and ground fighting, while assisting intermediate level students in mastering the basics that will prepare them for more advanced classes.
The Fundamentals class also introduces the novice student to a basic M.M.A. conditioning regimen. These important callisthenic and body-weight exercises allow new students to improve their level of aerobic/anaerobic fitness while working at their own pace.
The different martial arts that comprise our striking and grappling curriculums are known for their practicality and effectiveness, both in competition and in real world self defense. In our fundamentals classes we not only teach students how to do these practical and effective techniques, we train them until each and every move becomes a reaction. Regardless of whether a students motivation is personal protection, competition or just plain old fun, it's truly gratifying for World Class Instructors to see the smiles on their faces as they suddenly realize they can now, not only do the cool MMA moves they've seen on TV, but make them work as well.
In The World Class MMA Ranking System, beginners with no prior experience are considered Level 1 Students after the completion of their first class. The Fundamentals Classes are attended by students working toward levels 2, 3, 4, etc.
Striking Fundamentals
The Striking Fundamentals class teaches a student to not only punch, kick, knee and elbow with maximum effectiveness, but to also defend against these very same attacks.-Based on Muay Thai Kickboxing, Jun Fan Kickboxing and western boxing, Our striking classes improve endurance, strength, muscle tone, coordination and flexibility. WCG Striking Classes also build lean muscle and burn fat by incorporating resistance training in every class. Our students are pleasantly surprised to learn that bag and pad work benefit the body in the exact same way as weight training, helping them to tone up and develop a more chiseled physique. On-going participation in the Striking Fundamentals Classes is an optimal way to stay in shape and improve overall physical fitness, while simultaneously learning self-defense skills and building confidence.
For those students who have aspirations of entering into mma competition at some point, our striking fundamentals classes build a strong foundation in stand up skill that will eventually allow them participate in more advanced aspects of training such as contact sparring.

Grappling Fundamentals (Submission/Grappling) &
(Wrestling/Grappling)
Our Grappling Fundamentals Classes are designed to introduce new students to the basic takedowns, submissions and ground & pound techniques as they apply to the sport of MMA and practical self defense. World Class Gym boasts one of western PA's most comprehensive grappling curriculums, incorporating techniques from a variety of styles incuding: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Shooto, Judo, Catch-as-Can and Freestyle Wrestling.

Just as our fundamentals curriculum is separated into dedicated classes for both striking & grappling, our grappling curriculum is further broken down into separate classes for both the "submission grappling" and "wrestling" aspects of MMA. As the name would suggest, our "submission/grappling" classes concentrate on Jiu jitsu and Shooto techniques like joint locks, chokes and cranks designed to force an opponent to "tapout". Sweeps, escapes and extensive work from the guard position are also covered in our submission grappling classes.
Our "wrestling/grappling" classes encompass clinching, takedowns, takedown defense and ground & pound techniques. Having dedicated classes for each aspect of grappling ensures that our students build a solid foundation in the 3 core areas of MMA.
In addition to learning & drilling techniques in our classes, students are provided the opportunity to participate in live submission wrestling or "rolling" in every class. Although this aspect of class is optional, (no student is ever pressured into rolling or sparring at World Class) students are encouraged to participate as "rolling" is perhaps the most valuable tool for building confidence and useable skill. Rolling at WCG is always practiced in a safe and controlled manner under the supervision of a qualified instructor.
GRAPPLING FUNDAMENTALS CLASSES:
Tues. - (Submission Grappling) 10 - 11am,
Weds. - (Submission Grappling) 6 - 7pm,
Thurs. - (Wrestling/Grappling) 11 - 12pm & 6 - 7pm,
Sat. - (Wrestling/Grappling) 12 - 1pm
MMA CLASSES (TEEN/ADULT LEVEL 2 & UP)
Once our students have developed a degree of proficiency and achieved the level 2 rank in both striking & grappling, we like to have them combine these 2 disciplines into full on "MMA style training". The goal of this class is to integrate the students striking & grappling skills into 1 complete method of fighting. It's in these classes that our students are transformed into true warriors & M.M.A. fighters, learning to apply tactics and strategy and making seamless transitions between the stand-up, clinching and ground games.
Even when students have graduated to our advanced classes(such as the MMA Class), they are still encouraged to continue attending the fundamentals classes to benefit from the repetitive drilling of basic techniques and to work on the level specific techniques required for testing. Although earning the level 2 rank in the Fundamentals Class is a pre-requisite to attending these more advanced classes, each individual student's acceptance is ultimately at the discretion of Coach Roppo.
MMA CLASSES:
Mon. - 7 - 8pm
Thurs. - 7 - 8pm
OPEN MATT/ROLL & SPARR (TEEN/ADULT ALL LEVELS)
Once a student has attended 2-3 weeks of fundamentals classes, adding in an occasional semi-supervised or "open mat" class can be quite beneficial to an individuals overall development. While an instructor is present to supervise the training and insure the safety of all participants, students are free to structure their own workouts. Students basically have their run of the facility and may engage in various types of training including: shadow boxing, stand - up or ground & pound bag work, weight training, the use of cardio machines or reviewing and drilling testing requirements with their classmates.
Structuring his/her own practice sessions (as opposed to being constantly "spoon fed" information by the instructor) forces a student to think outside the box and helps them to not just memorize the movements in the martial arts but to truly "understand" them.
Students may also "roll" with their classmates during open mat times, However students must first purchase the required "World Class Sparring Gear Package" before being permitted to engage in any type of contact sparring.
OPEN MATT/ROLL & SPARR CLASSTues. - 6 - 7pm
CONDITIONING CLASS (TEEN/ADULT LEVEL 2 & UP)

It was legendary football coach Vince Lombardi who said "Fatigue makes cowards of men" and this statement holds equally true in the sport of MMA. In this grueling class our fight team and advanced students push themselves through a variety of conditioning exercises to achieve superior levels of endurance. Training in this class may include working with cutting edge equipment such as: kettelbells, sandbags, tractor tires, slosh tubes, sledge hammers & bull ropes, as well as old stand bys like: free weights, medicine balls, stair climber & treadmills. On select days, training may also include a variety of wrestling, grappling and sparring drills designed to dramatically improve cardio vascular fitness. Whether your goal is to be a fighter or just be in the best fighting shape possible, this class will definitely get you there. Another advantage & privilege of this class is that the average student has the unique opportunity to train side by side with our World Class Fight Team. As anyone who attends World Class knows, we are not just a school, but a family & a brotherhood of modern day warriors . In the past many of our average students have been instrumental in helping our fighters to train for upcoming bouts.
It's a great feeling to know that you helped one of your "World Class Brothers" to achieve victory in competition. Just as they say "It takes a village to raise a child", so to "It takes a team to make a champion". Be part of the World Class Team!
CONDITIONING CLASSES:
Mon. - 8 - 9pm,
Weds. - 8 - 9pm
MMA FITNESS (TEEN/ADULT NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY)
The first thing you notice about MMA Fighters is the incredible shape they're in and the rock hard physiques they posses. These elite athletes train for hours each day, doing not only the cardio and weight training required in other sports, but lots and lots of full contact kickboxing, wrestling and MMA as well. That's why its always been next to impossible for the average adult to built a "fighters body" without undergoing the rigorous, painful and even dangerous training a mixed martial arts competitor engages in. Until now...

MMA FITNESS Q & A
Will Starting MMA Fitness Classes be an Intimidating & Uncomfortable Experience?
Not at all. Most people feel uncomfortable when starting a new fitness or class because they are unfamiliar with the exercises and class format. Before doing a group MMA Fitness class each student undergoes a "one on one" orientation session & intro class with a qualified Instructor.
NO MMA Fitness does not require contact with other participants or instructors, nor is there any need to work with a partner. MMA Fitness is an exercise program designed for individuals to work at their own pace. The exercises are safe and effective for women and men, teen through adult.
Is MMA Fitness like practicing a martial Art?NO. MMA Fitness is based on the "tried & true" training methods used by professional cage fighters. There's nobody in better shape than the athletes competing in Professional MMA, so we modified some of the training techniques that are used by those athletes and created the MMA Fitness Program. We wanted to help get people into the best possible shape without the contact, partners or "bumps and bruises" that occur in conventional MMA training. MMA Fitness is not only one of the best workouts you can get but also challenging and fun.
I don't work out at all... Is MMA Fitness too hard for me?Not at all. Unlike aerobic classes where an instructor is leading a group of people through various exercises at a certain pace, MMA Fitness allows everyone to go at their own pace. MMA Fitness consists of 5 - 5 minute rounds, with 30 to 60 second interval segments within those rounds. Instead of trying to keep pace with an instructor, individual can compete with themselves to see how many repetitions of each exercise you can do within those interval segments.
Do I have to sign a contract? We have a variety of different memberships and payment options to choose from but no one is required to sign a contract. We do however encourage participants to give the program at least 12 weeks to really see the results.
How long are classes?MMA Fitness was designed to get maximum results in a short amount of time. The class is 30 minutes which consists of 5 - 5 minute rounds with a minute rest in between. This is the same format used in a championship MMA match. This allows someone to get a great workout in without taking up much time out of ones day.

KALI/ESKRIMA CLASS (TEEN/ADULT LEVEL 2 & UP)

Most World Class Students are aware that in addition to MMA, Head Coach & Instructor, Dan Roppo also specializes in the Filipino Martial Arts (see our "World Class Instructors" page). Practitioners of Kali (as the art is called in the Southern Philippines) and Eskrima (A Central Philippine term of Spanish origin) have a fearsome reputation as the world's deadliest stick & knife fighters. Kali & Eskrima are so practical and effective that practitioners are often able to pick up common, everyday objects and employ them as deadly weapons. This not to say that FMA (Filipino Martial Arts) lacks in the area of empty hand self defense, as techniques include joint locks, pressure point manipulation, limb destructions, grappling, takedowns & striking with hands, feet, knees & elbows.
Because FMA is not only brutally effective, but lightning fast, fluid & visually stunning as well, it has become the art of choice for Hollywood Fight choreographers in big budget action films like 300, The Hunted, The Chronicles of Riddick, The Book of Eli and the Bourne Identity & Blade Trilogies.
Mr. Roppo earned a Guro (the Filipino term for teacher) Title under Guro Dan Inosanto & was a personal student & close friend of the late Suro Mike Inay. Not surprisingly, the 2 Core systems of Mr. Roppo's FMA Curriculum are Inosanto Blend Kali/Eskrima & The Inayan System of Eskrima. The Curriculum is also influenced by the Cold Steel & Dog Brothers Systems to a lesser extent.
The Kali/ Eskrima Classes are highly recommended for all students. Mixed Martial Arts Training alone will not be enough to defend oneself from multiple or armed assailants, However, when FMA Training is combined with MMA Training, your have a complete and practical means of self defense. This Type of training is also invaluable for police, military & correctional officers, and over the years Guro Roppo has instructed hundreds of Beaver & Allegheny County Law Enforcement Personnel.
Kali/Eskrima Classes are free to level 2 students who are already involved in one or more areas of the World Class MMA Curriculum. (FMA Equipment Package required) Although earning the level 2 rank in the Fundamentals Class is a pre-requisite to attending these more advanced classes, each individual student's acceptance is ultimately at the discretion of Coach Roppo.
